  • Anti Down Draught Cowl Stainless Steel

Being made from Durable stainless steel, this cowl carries all the features of the M.A.D terracotta cowl but allows use with high corrosive smokeless fuel applications. Simply the best static anti down draught cowl available, designed to eradicate smoky fireplaces, and blow back, whilst also preventing rain. In our opinion this is the best circular shaped static anti-down-draught cowl on the market, it also provides superior levels of rain protection to any other anti-down draught cowl on the market whilst allowing escaping gases to flow out freely. As with all MAD cowls, the quality on offer surpasses that of equivalent inferior models being offered elsewhere.

  • Spinner Type Anti Down Draught Cowl

The MAD spinner cowl is the best quality revolving chimney cowl on the market.  Designed to eradicate downdraught, whilst the rotating action assists ventilation, this cowl is the go to product to increase upward draw within the chimney. It is also commonly used for ventilation purposes on extraction flues at land fill sites.

Tested and Complies with BSEN 16475-7:2016

Time served in the metal engineering sector, has provided us with the knowledge and understanding of how to manufacture technical products such as this. We know how many stresses are placed on a spinning cowl especially when wind speeds are at increased levels.   Therefore we like to ensure that customers are aware that M.A.D spinner cowl is made from thick aluminium cast base with a stainless steel fin set and shaft assembly.  Using light weight materials is not an option when producing a cowl that will be placed under such stress when in use.

The MAD spinner cowl benefits from the following:

    • Fits a range of flue sizes up to 275mm outside diameter
    • Withstands flue temperatures up to 200ºC
    • Sold fully assembled and ready to fit
    • Sold complete with a stainless steel strap fixings
    • Has a test certificate to BSEN 1856-1: 2003
    • Highly effective in preventing downdraught and increasing ventilation
    • Height 320mm – Width 300mm
    • Withstands wind speeds up to 65mph
    • Suitable for use with seasoned wood,  normal coal, gas

It is our opinion that no spinning/revolving chimney cowl is suitable for use with peat or smokeless fuel without increased levels of annual maintenance. Mentioned within our product bulletin above gives customers an insight into the vast knowledge we possess in the field of metal engineering. Be assured we know the limits of the materials used within this product type; It is our expressed opinion that no spinning/rotating chimney cowl can cope with such acidity levels on a prolonged basis, without failing.   If it is your desire to use the spinning cowl with smokeless fuel, all we ask is to be prepared to carry out maintenance at shorter intervals.  That said, our spinning cowls are made to the highest standards, and should a customer want to use a MAD Spinner cowl outside our warranted recommendations, then we have spares on hand, to ensure that our spinning cowls can be serviced and/or repaired more frequently.

When used with seasoned wood, coal or oil your spinning/revolving chimney cowl will need to removed each year and cleaned.  We feel that other brands that do not mention this are misleading customers into thinking that the model they offer will not need this maintenance. All spinning cowls unless used with gas will inevitably suffer debris build up, this debris will need to be removed to ensure the product keeps spinning.

For areas with consistently high wind speeds a M.A.D. static anti down draught cowl will be more appropriate as spinner cowls can deteriorate in consistently strong windy conditions.
